The Food Economy: A crucial industry


The agriculture and food processing economy is a multi billion dollar industry in New Mexico and accounts for over 50,000 jobs. When it comes to growing our own, this is an industry our state can't ignore. Especially when it comes to equity.

Today we feature two stories: a recent report out of UNM highlighting the importance of supporting local farmers and ranchers and a video featuring Three Sisters Kitchen, a nonprofit community food space that is putting income equity first.

Three Sisters Kitchen is taking a different approach to the restaurant industry. In its first year, Three Sisters Kitchen has created 14 living wage jobs with full benefits, providing a pathway for a more equitable, values-based food business.
